11 dead, 61 hurt in Lahore blast LAHORE: At least 11 people were killed and 61 injured in a powerful blast in Lahore area of Model Town, which targeted a government office, Geo News reported Monday.

The deceased include two women and three men.

Talking to media, Lahore Commissioner Khusro Pervez confirmed the killings of at least 11 people.

Talking to media, DCO Sajjad Bhutta said the blast may be a suicide car attack, adding at least 600-kilogram explosives have been used in the blast. While, Bomb Disposal Squad said the explosives were 800 kilograms.

The material are being said to be the C4, which is the most horrible among explosives. The fact that the vehicle packed with 800-kg explosives moved freely in the city, raises questions on the security condition in the city. The blast was so powerful that a man in nearby building could not sustain its tremendous sound and passed away.

Talking to media, Punjab police chief Tariq Salim Dogar said the secret agency was working in a residential area as there is shortage of offices; the targeted office was to be shifted to its proper working place.

The police chief said the blast targeted the Special Investigation Agency of the secret agency at 815am.

It should be mentioned that the secret agency’s investigation and research office was working at a house situated in K Block of Model Town.

According to police sources, the security guard intercepted a man entering the building of a secret agency, who blew himself up destroying the entire building.

The blast sound was heard far and wide. The blast was so powerful that it created a huge crater on the blast site and the nearby buildings were harmed.

The blast razed the building to ground. The injured are being taken out from under the rubble. Of the 61 injured, 29 are in critical state in various hospitals of the city.

Talking to media, Dr Javed Ikram Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College said emergency has been imposed in all hospitals. There are 13 women among the injured, adding the doctors were on strike; however, seeing the critical situation generated by the blast, they called it off and reported on duty.

The doctor appealed the citizens for blood donations.

Ambulances, police and other rescue teams are busy with rescue work. Also, heavy machinery have arrived on the spot to retrieve the bodies and the injured people from under the rubble.

The blast site has been cordoned off, so that the rescue work could head smoothly.

Division Commissioner Khusro Pervez Khan said the attackers’ vehicle entered from K Block.
